Update: Nobody can see where a problem is. Emails are going out. I've had 2 bounces for one person on the forum and they were because the email address is no longer good.

The only thing we can think of is that the IP address of the server may have been blacklisted some time in the past and those of you that aren't getting emails may be being stopped at your ISP level. Ya'll might check with your ISP and see if they can see if that's happening. The emails would be coming from either redhotsweeps.com or lcdwebservices.com. You'd need to have them check both.

I thought originally that it might be blacklisted with my ISP, but Ive been getting one every now and then, so I don't think I'd be getting an ocassional one if that was the case.

Over 5 years ago my ISP upset me by blocking/destroying at least 2 win notices in the interests of protecting me. I've checked and my disabling of their filters are still in effect.

Like Marlane, its sporadic: I received a single PM notice 3 days ago andthen that stopped. After Chris looked into this some days ago, I received a maybe 3 or 4 update notices that day and then nothing more for threads.

Betty, between 8:00 this morning and now, I've received 30 bounced emails for you. They're for subscribed threads and for private message alerts and they're from 1/10 (Monday) thru today. They're definitely going out to you and being returned. Here's a sampling.

Dear betty,

You have received a new private message at RHSS Message Forum from [removed]

-----------------

It looks like your email service for some reason wouldn't connect and it gave up after several tries and bounced it. I'll PM you with the full headers from one so you can see it and talk to your ISP about it if you want. At least now there's something to give all of us a starting point on what's going on.

-------------------------------------------------------------

So far I've only received 2 other bounces and they were for TexasCathy with the reason of invalid mailbox. I also subscribed to a couple of threads and I'm receiving notices at my gmail account on those. I'll let others know if I get any in for them.

Is anyone else besides me receiving their emails like they should? So far only those not receiving them have spoken up.

I don't as a rule subscribe, but I subscribed to 2 threads as a test, and received email update notices from both of them.

I seem to be getting more emails now. I subscribed to a few more threads as well, not sure if all of them are coming thru yet though

Marlene,
The forum emails are going out and they're not bouncing so either they're going in your spam box or your email provider has to be stopping them before they get to you.

Betty had the same problem as you and this is the solution we came up with and as far as I know it's working. (Betty, speak up if it isn't!)

You can set up a gmail account, change your forum email address to it and have the forum emails go there. If you don't want to check them there, you can have gmail forward them to your regular email address and never log in to gmail.

Marlane, I do know at one time, long long ago, I had to provide my ISP with either the email address or some other info related to RHSS to get them to stop blocking it. It's been years now so I don't remember the details.

Remember, most ISPs filter some mail long before it ever gets to your spam account. You might try Linda's suggestion of a free gmail or yahoo account for the forum.

Its strange, some of the subscribed emails are coming thru, once in a while they don't. I'm sure my ISP is screwing things up, but the IP address for RHSS has already been provided to them, cause we did go thru this many years ago too. Usually when that is what is happening, the emails bounce back to RHSS or wherever they came from. I might play this out for awhile again, and if it still continues to be a problem, decide to change the email. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I would opt for gmail looping of traffic now - it resolves the problem and time did absolutely nothing to fix it for me. One less aggravation to deal with.
As Linda mentioned ... bottomline everything works as it should if I run the RHSS messages thru gmail setting up a filter there to auto forward RHSS traffic to my cablevision ISP.
I talked w/ISP customer service a couple times and they insisted the problem was on the side of RHSS's server. Linda had no trouble showing that it wasn't. Truth was, once routed thru gmail I haven't missed a message. If I try to route RHSS traffic direct to my ISP it behaves like yours; no messages and then something will happen and I get a few before everything goes missing again. As Linda put it, the gmail looping of RHSS traffic was a simple enough correction that ended the aggravation with the bonus of not having to spend wasted time w/customer service folk. The looping does not have to specifically be thru gmail ...
g'luck

I will definitely be looking into this. Thanks again for all the info. I already have a gmail account I use for work, think I may just set another one up and keeps for sweeps. Been threatening to do that for many years, just never got around it.
