How to save $$ on funeral costs

http://www.thecentsiblelife.com/2012...y-on-funerals/

What a surprising blog topic; it touchs on what is commonly offered along with price ranges. Also mentions what is often offered but not required by many states. I know - odd topic that is best considered and discussed in advance. Many people are perfectly ok with cremation while after they pass relatives come out of the woodwork browbeating the surviviing spouse into the more expensive traditional burial.

I was surprised to learn that Sam's Club and other clubs are now selling coffins (think deep discount). The blog suggests finding out if the funeral home will price match the club price for you.

Really, each person should have his/her own wishes written out (and a will) well in advance, but so many do not.

Not meaning to poke fun at anyone, but this brings to mind stories about people who bargain hunt for their own coffin, then store it in their basement or garage (shudder). Then, when their time comes, no funeral home or cemetery will accept that coffin. They all make their own rules, it seems.

And there are so many family lawsuits on "court TV," because they just cannot agree on arrangements, prices, etc. Some are ludicrous, some are very sad.

I wondered about that Audrey - but the blog post said the funeral home was supposed to use 'your' coffin. Seems like the save money by building your own coffin crowd was also using them as coffee tables until they were needed.
And when you are dead, what's a little dust?

Still and all - interesting article. Every person should leave written wishes
