Saw this in my news feed from channel 5 in Chicago this AM.

I had someone use my credit card on 11/26/13 to buy Intuit QuickBooks and a reoccurring charge for their payroll service. (2 separate things). I am home today waiting for my "requested" new credit cards to arrive.

Since I usually use them at the same places every month, this was quirky timing as "new cards were already in the mail to me" due to the expiration date of the ones I had, and are somehow "delayed" as they have not arrived yet. New cards often just change your expiration date and code on the back of the card, and there is a kinda grace period allowed around the time they expire. .... I've actually had to use an old card once long ago and it was approved. Technically my old ones were still "good" till I cancelled them and asked for replacements. Replacements will totally change my number and altho I may have to add it to places that might have my number stored now -- much safer than just letting them change the expiration date.

PCI compliance is mandatory now... and costs every merchant that takes cards, from hundreds for little merchants to thousands and more for larger ones. We are not allowed to keep any card data from customers online at all.

Hope they catch the people, not likely, because they aren't stupid (obviously) and they likely live in a place that won't prosecute them for this!
