Verify your email address.....

In an effort to cut down on the bounced emails we are receiving, starting this weekend, if your email bounces due to a full mailbox or invalid email address, we will be deleting your account.

This goes for the forums and the games. If you are entering the RHSS contests and your email is invalid, we cannot notify you if you win.

It only applies if your emails are bouncing. If you receive your entry confirmations and/or forum posts emails, then you have nothing to worry about.

Chris

Ocassionally while traveling without a laptop my mailbox fills up and Earthlink refuses additional mail, and of course that bounces it back to the sender. I don't imagine that I am alone in this regard Chris, isn't deleting the RHSS account a little harsh. Maybe a reasonable time period could be established.

I'm not going to go rampant. I'll use a little restrant. The main problem is with the games/entries. I get tons of bounces from the same people over and over and over.

I would be willing to bet that some of my emails have bounced at one time or another but it's not because of a full mailbox. I think it's due to........... well, I'm not really sure except that our ISP occasionally goes haywire and I don't receive mail. Lord only knows if it's bounced back or just lost forever.

Rather than totally delete an account, why couldn't the winner just be posted on the RHSS site? Just a thought....

A big reason for not posting winners on the site until after they have claimed their prize is that only a handful of people look or pay attention.

The main ones that Chris is wanting to get rid of are the ones that come back with the reason given of "user does not exist" or "that account does not exist". And if they're bouncing because the account doesn't exist, there's no way to notify them of a win or notify them that they are using a bad email address unless it's someone that I know for sure who it is. And I only know a small handful of email addresses of anyone that comes to the site and they're ones that I communicate with on a semi-regular basis.

I think everyone's email bounces at some time or another - mine has too - and that's not the problem. It's the ones where the email address is not good and keeps bouncing and keeps bouncing day after day after day. When we can look at and recognize an email address and say, "Oh yea, that one bounces all the time", and pleas from us on the forum and newsletter to check your email address doesn't work, then it's time to remove them.

So if you only have an occasional bounce because of a burp or something screwy inbetween us and you, then you have nothing to worry about.

What will happen to me?/ My isp blocks everything from rackspace, and I have to give them your IP address to unblock it alone, but each time you change IP addresses, my emails start bouncing again, and I may not become aware of it for a few days, which would mean MANY emails bouncing back to you. I'm in that fix right now, cause my contact at my ISP wasn't avail Friday to unblock the new IP and my emails will be bouncing at least till I can get ahold of her. (I tried to get someone else to fix it, but aparently they haven't been able to.) Is there someway you can alert us any time you change the IP address? (PM won't work of couse, cause I won't get it) I don't want my account deleted, cause my email is good, its just I have this ongoing battle with my provider.

As I said above, I am only deleting accts where the email address bounces because of a bad userid or the mailbox is full. The bounces that your isp is doing gives me a different error message. Emails that are bouncing with similar messages will be ok.
