Trade or Sale of prizes - Question

I did a search for this and I do not believe this was discussed before, if so, sorry for repeating

I have done three very successful trades in the past month with 3 different RHSS members. Is there a thread we could start somewhere and then add to regarding trades or sales between members? If someone has a history of being quick and fair with their trades it would help other members in making a decision as to whether or not to trade with them. Any thoughts?

dunno
It's probably easier to leave it to the seller to ask for a reference for prior trades in Forum vs setting up a formal history for all.

I am glad that your trades worked out, and not surprised given the caliber of RHSS folks. Having said that, I am not sure that a separate thread or area is necessary, or even a good idea. What if, for instance, one of your trades turned out to be a disaster, would you want that posted?? Would RHSS want that posted??

Perhaps better to just put up a satisfaction post after a good trade - "Just finished a great trade with RHSS member XYZ, thanks again!!"

Maybe others here have different feelings or thoughts tho.. I am but the voice of a single gator..

Betty - I never thought about asking for a referrence. Good idea, in that if you want to trade with someone just ask them for the name of another RHSS member they traded with and PM them. That is if they have done trades before, every one has to have a 1st time trade.

Brad - If one of my trades turned out to be a disaster, yes I would want that posted so other member would be forewarned. Would RHSS want that posted? Prolly not.

I just think that if it is good trade others should know... I like your idea.
"Just finished a great trade with member XYZ being posted in the orginial trade offer." Anyone could back through the Trade, Sell, Swap and look for posts.

I think I am going to do that from now on as long as I get the OK from the other RHSS member involved.

I'd rather not set up a thread like that. I think Brad's right in that if you have a good trade, then make a reply post to your trade thread that it was successful and name who you did the trade with. That can be done by both the "seller" and "buyer".

Also, if it would make you feel safer in a trade and you only want to do trades with specific groups like subscribed members only or members that have been with the forum x number of years or must have a minimum x number of posts, it is acceptable but be sure to put it in your post so that everyone will know.

The few times that unhappy posts about forum trades have appeared, it was too much info for me. trade disasters that can't be worked out should be handled privately with mods not in open forum. In bad situations, the person simply is not with us any more.

I agree that things like bad trades should be handled privately. The few times I've traded, all went well.

However, there is one active member who promised to send me something ~ very openly in a forum ~ and then never did. That was many months ago, and I found out she has promised other members things, but never sent them.

I never complained, publicly or privately, although my feelings were hurt.

I've only traded a few times....all went well -- but I do know of disasters -- the only thing is that sometimes more than one member gets hurt because nothing was said and they didn't have a clue.

However most members here stay members -- and find a good home here -- because we share a kind of equal footing in our belief's and level of ethics. (as Betty said, those that don't move on)

Having said all that.... I do like Brad's idea about putting it in the thread then it's there for all to see --- "Great trade, thanks" is enough to say it went well.

Toystory, I've been thinking about that, and I know she has hurt others with her false promises, excuses, and constant whines about money.

Now I'm worried that she is using her religious piosity and false promises to wheedle money from members.

Maybe my being hurt in silence wasn't so wise after all.

Specific complaints can and should be lodged with Linda or Mods ... not discussed openly.
Forum is just like the rest of life. We like some and don't like others.

The question wasn't brought up for this thread to become a bashing session.

But as both Audrey and Johannah referred to - "the only thing is that sometimes more than one member gets hurt because nothing was said and they didn't have a clue."

If I want to do a trade with someone - Could I PM Linda or a Mod and ask privately if this person is good to deal with?

I'm not sure I'd know, nor would Linda, unless she had specific experience.

As for me, I've traded with a very few people here, or bought things from them and all that I've dealt with have been terrific. I do know we've had members that were less than wonderful to deal with and I think most of them have moved on. It happens on any board and the bad traders generally wear out their welcome. I am aware of at least two bad traders we had here but they moved on long ago.

Most sites, like this one, just offer the trade board as a benefit to their members, but the owners generally have no desire to get in the middle of bad trades.

I have been asked for advice before on how to handle a trade that has gone bad. I always indicate that they should try to contact that person and be very specific about what they expect. Sometimes it works/sometimes it doesn't.

I know that anyone who has traded with me has gotten exactly what was promised and so have I from the other members. Unfortunately, I have no other real knowledge other than my personal experience.

Which partially brings me back to ..... if they are around here for awhile then they usually are in sync with our overall ethics and beliefs.....

And also that when you take a chance, you take a chance --- here, ebay, local garage sale.... no trade has ever been that important to me to hurt someone else about... and I think you were right Audrey to stay quiet (at best the only person who should know might be Linda or mod -- so they can watch out for "contining issues" if they keep hearing the same things).

After all ....in truth.... what goes around comes around....sooner or later!!

And lastly,.... all my trades have been wonderful.....I haven't had one bad trade at all....all the members have come thru with their promises!
